A NIGHTMARE HELP !

Postby helpatendoftether on Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:33 pm

Hi All

Bear with me as this may be long !!

We had a new combi boiler fitted last March and it has never worked properly. It keeps loosing pressure. At the owrse re pressuring two three times day.

We have had the boiler checked over by the installer and the Manufacturer and both have given it a full clean bill of health and have said that the cause woud be a leak in the under floor heating pipes.

Anyway after a lot of palava we finally got a Loss adjuster sorted out and he appointed a Leak Detection company to start the investigations. They identified one leak and so three months later we have the lounge floor dug up plaster ripped off walls and hallway half dug up due to water damage. Pipes have been repaired but we are still suffering as the leaks was quite extensive in the damage it has caused. The floor screed has now got to come up 48sqm so quite a lot of floor space.
Anyway the boiler still is loosing pressure ate the moment 0.1 bar pressure per couple of days. We disussed that if the initial leak repairs didn't solve the pressure loss a gas pressure test should be done.

So expecting this to be done (auth my insurer as we have £6K cover for trace and access) on the next visit the two experts (they told us they were qualified plumbers so should know what they are doing went round with thermal imaging camera's (didn't go in every room ! ) and stood and watched the pressure gauge on the boiler for a couple of hours. They then said no leak and went. Pressure meanwhile still goes down. I queiried that it didn't seem very scientific considering if it were a slower leak then the pressure wouldn't go down within that time. So they came again and did excatly the same thing again ! This time you can imagine I am starting to loose my temper. They are now coming to do this but are still saying it is an unnecesary test as they think that there are no more leaks !

Is it just me are are they talking utter rubbish !!
Thanks
Lucy

I take it that you have no problem with temp on your boiler as this could cause a slight drop .
Isolate the boiler at the flow and return. pressure test pipework independent of boiler. this will be a start. as for finding the leak they seem to be making a meal out of it. dave d
